MONTREAL -- Entering these playoffs, the Washington Capitals had gone to a seventh and deciding game in all three playoff series they have ever played under head coach Bruce Boudreau. Authentic Mario Chalmers Jersey . Now you can make it four. The Capitals allowed the Montreal Canadiens to erase a 3-1 deficit and even their Eastern Conference quarter-final series at three games apiece with a 4-1 loss Monday night, reducing the series to a one-game sudden-death showdown to be played in Washington on Wednesday. This Capitals team may have a lot of experience playing in seventh games, but theyve never approached one coming off two straight losses. "We have to wipe the slate clean," Boudreau said. "If you start thinking and let them get inside your head from whats happened in the past, then youre in trouble. It all starts fresh, take a deep breath and come back at them." The Capitals have seen two chances to eliminate Montreal thwarted by Canadiens goalie Jaroslav Halak, who allowed only two goals on 92 shots in Games 5 and 6 combined. "Sometimes, goalies get in a zone where nothing is going to beat them, and hes in that zone," Boudreau said. "Everything he saw, he was going to stop." If the Capitals played horribly and generated few opportunities, it might be easier for Boudreau to make some adjustments heading into Game 7. But when a goalie continues turning aside an abundance of quality scoring chances, how can a coach make changes to help his team to victory? "We just have to go and do what we do," Boudreau said. "I dont think there will be too many changes at all. I thought the team played good, the group was as good as we can put out there." Capitals winger Mike Knuble repeatedly mentioned how he and his teammates were not getting frustrated by Halak, that sooner or later those scoring chances will turn into actual goals. "There cant be any frustration in our game," Knuble said. "No matter whats happened with the power play, we did a lot good things on it and it will pay off. We all believe that. Keep getting a lot of pucks on net and it will pay off. We all believe that." However, Boudreau admitted that his shooters were starting to think too much about how to beat Halak. It took 52 shots to finally beat him Monday, with Eric Fehr finally scoring on a tap-in at 15:10 of the third period. "Thats absolutely what happens, instead of just shooting you try to be fine and try to pick two-inch spots," Boudreau said. "What ends up going in is that shot that did go in, a wide shot thats redirected that he has no chance on. They get so frustrated that they try to pick two-inch spots all over the ice, and usually that doesnt work." The one area the Capitals definitely need to improve remains the power play, which is now a dismal 1-for-30 in the series after being shutout on six opportunities Wednesday. The Capitals did generate 18 of their 54 shots on the power play, but not one of them came during a crucial two-man advantage in the first period with the Capitals trailing 2-0. "I thought if we were going to score that would have been it," Boudreau said. "We were trying to be too cute again. There might be personnel changes if we ever get that again." In the previous seven-game series, the Capitals forced the deciding showdown by winning Game 6. Now this young team is on the other side of that situation. It will be interesting to see how the Presidents Trophy winners will react. "Im sure guys are disappointed, but were not frustrated," Knuble said. "Well be ready to go in much the same way on Wednesday." Blazers Jersey . Jimenez (9-1) lowered his league-leading earned run average to a minuscule 0.88, allowed six hits, walked one and struck out three. He ran a scoreless streak to 17 innings dating back to a May 15 start against Washington and sits in rare company with his sensational start to the 2010 season. Cheap Jeremy Lin Jersey .   On Friday morning GM Mike Gillis confirmed the 30-year-old has been cleared for light contact.   "This is the natural progression without any sideways or backwards movement," Gillis said. "Hes progressed really well, but theres a time frame in all of this where it isnt about progressing, its just stability over time, and hes gone through that now and everything looks really good. Jeremy Lin Jersey . Riveras first home run gave the Angels a 4-2 lead in the ninth, but the Rangers scored two runs off Fernando Rodney in the bottom of the frame to force extras. Jered Weaver, making his final start of the season for the Angels, gave up a pair of solo home runs to Mitch Moreland. Carmelo Anthony Jersey . The team drew criticism after signing convicted dogfighting ringleader Michael Vick. He didnt attend Mondays meeting. Tom Hickey of DogPAC says he believes the upshot of the meeting was that the Eagles have a responsibility to battle dog fighting because of the Vick move. Amare Stoudemire Jersey . CALGARY -- Grigori Zheldakovs goal moved the Russians a step closer to defending its IIHF world junior hockey championship title, but now they will have to get through archrival Canada for a spot in the gold-medal game. Zheldakov scored at 1:30 of overtime to lead Russia to a nail-biting 2-1 win over the Czech Republic in quarter-final action Monday. "Its the best goal of my career so far," said Zheldakov through an interpreter. Zheldakov took a pass from Nikita Kucherov and blasted a slap shot past Czech goalie Petr Mrazek. "I looked at the goalie and decided to shoot on the blocker," Zheldakov said. "I was lucky to score." After the game, Mrazek was incensed that the play should have been whistled down as Czech defender Daniel Krejci was sprawled face down on the ice after taking an apparent high stick to the face. "I thought that was a penalty for sure," Mrazek said. "Everybody saw it was high stick on the highlights too and he didnt call." In the other quarter-final, Finland defeated Slovakia 8-5 and will face Sweden in the semifinals. In relegation-round action, Switzerland edged Denmark 4-3 in overtime. Mrazek, who plays for the Ontario Hockey Leagues Ottawa 67s, stopped 43 of 45 shots he faced in the Czech net and received a standing ovation from the crowd of 16,581 fans. "Thats an unreal thing if you lose and the people still stand up and say our names and stuff," Mrazek said. "It would be much better if we won." After starting the tournament with three straight wins -- 3-0 over Switzerland, 3-1 over Slovakia and 14-0 over Latvia -- Russia gave up a three-goal lead and lost 4-3 in overtime to Sweden on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Czech Republic started off with a 7-0 win over Denmark before losing 5-0 to Canada. The Czechs then stunned the United States with a 5-2 win before suffering a 4-0 loss to Finland in its final preliminary-round game. The Russians outshot the Czechs 16-5 in the first period but couldnt find a way to beat Mrazek. Kuznetsov had the best chance to score on a breakaway but he missed a wide open net from close range after making a nice backhand-to-forehand move. The Czechs battled back early in the second and carried the majority of the play. "In the first period we didnt play hard, so we said something in the dressing room," Mrazek said. "In the second period it was much better. In the first 15 minutes they didnt have any chances and we had a couple and we scored just one goal." Vasilevski made a shoulder save to turn aside a shot by Culek before stopping a shot off the stick of Lukas Sedlak with his blocker. Persistence paid off for the Czechs at 7:16 of the middle frame when Culek tapped in a great cross-crease feed from Tomas Hertl. Daniel Krejci nearly put the Czechs up by two goals when he deked his way from the slot to the front of the net before Vasilevski stuck out his left pad to turn aside his backhand shot. Russia then tied up the game at 1-1 when Apalkov fired a long-range snap shot past Mrazek. Late in the second period, Apalkov and Yaroslav Kosov broke into the Czech zone on a two-on-one. Amare Stoudemire Jersey. From his left wing, Apalkov passed over to Kosov, who fired a quick shot on net that Mrazek stopped with his left pad. After making the highlight-reel save, Mrazek got back up on his skates and lifted up his glove hand in celebration to the delight of the fans. Mrazek received some help from Vojtech Mozik early in the third period when the Czech defenceman alertly cleared a loose puck in the crease out of harms way before any Russian forwards could get to it. At the 12 minute mark of the third, Mrazek made a great glove grab on a shot from the slot off the stick of Kosov. Then, with two minutes left in regulation, Mrazek stopped a heavy wrist shot from the slot by Kosov. Not to be outdone, Vasilevski made a nice glove save to thwart a scoring attempt by Czech forward Tomas Filippi. With 46.8 seconds left in the third, the Czechs were awarded a power play when Kucherov was sent to the penalty box for high sticking. After the Czechs failed to capitalize, Kucherov made them pay by setting up Zheldakov for the game-winning goal in overtime. "Its unbelievable emotion because we played three-on-four before the goal," Apalkov said. "I was so happy." Finland 8 Slovakia 5@ Mikael and Markus Granlund used their offensive skills to lead Finland out of the quarter-finals at the IIHF world junior hockey championship. If they hope to beat Sweden in the semifinals, the brothers agreed the Finns have to play better in both zones. "We need to play better defensively," said Mikael Granlund, who had a goal and three assists in the win over Slovakia. "Five goals is too much." Markus Granlund, who scored twice and had an assist, echoed his older brother. "Sweden has a very good team," said the 18-year-old forward, a second-round pick of the Calgary Flames in the 2011 NHL draft. "I think we have (to play) defence better and play harder and skate more." If he and his teammates can shore up some of their problems on defence, Mikael Granlund predicted that the Finns have what it takes to beat Sweden and advance to Thursdays final. "Well try to play as good as we can and we have a chance," said the first round pick of the Minnesota Wild. "Its a big rivalry. Its going to be a great game. We have a chance to go to the final, so its fun." Teemu Pulkkinen had a goal and an assist for Finland, while Joel Armia, Roope Hamalainen, Alexsander Barkov and Joonas Donskoi also scored.
